Growing up as a plus-sized black girl in my area, I had many troubles. I suffered from self-esteem issues and was often bullied. I found different ways to cope with these things by watching music videos and shows, making my own outfits cut from magazines, dreaming up concepts based on what I had seen. This became something I did every day for years. When I watched on TV how people felt when they were dressed their best, how celebrities would glow on the red carpet, or an artist's confidence would boost when they were on stage. Their outfits made statements about who they are and how they feel. I knew that I wanted to feel how they felt in those moments, and help other people feel that way too. Fashion became my outlet to express how I felt and take back my confidence. From that moment on, it became evident that dressing myself and others was my calling. I understood very early on that styling and working in the fashion world was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My passion for fashion and styling shows in my work because I put my best effort into it.

What Now?

Since beginning my journey, I have made great progress.

• In 2018, I began studying Fashion Communications with a minor in Mandarin Chinese at Iowa State University. 

• I studied abroad at the London College of Fashion's Fashion Media and Communications program.

• I have worked closely with Celebrity Stylist Cassandra Dittmer on various projects

• My plus size magazine business idea won People's Choice Award at Iowa State

• I have been granted the opportunity to work as a committee member, and  Story Styling Director, for Trend Magazine in Iowa.

• I have gotten the chance to be a TEDx Talk speaker about fast fashion and sustainability in the textile & apparel industry.
